Child Rights Protection Agency Conducts 2nd Inspection Meeting on Child-Centered Public Adoption System
With the public adoption system set to be implemented on July 19th, 2025..."Strengthening the state’s responsibility to its citizens."
On February 26, the Child Rights Protection Agency (Director Jung Ik-jung) held the 2nd inspection meeting for the promotion of the public adoption system in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Welfare at its conference room in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
This meeting was organized to ensure the establishment of the "Public Adoption System" guaranteed by the state, in accordance with the upcoming "Special Act on Domestic Adoption" and the "Act on International Adoption," both set to take effect on July 19th, 2025.
As a follow-up to the first inspection meeting held on January 26, discussions focused on the progress of various tasks related to the establishment of the public adoption system and plans for the transfer of responsibilities.
The Child Rights Protection Agency shared pilot operation plans in preparation for the reform of the adoption system and discussed with the Ministry of Health and Welfare the following items for a seamless transfer of responsibilities to adoption agencies:
Transfer plans for adoption agency tasks
Implementation of adoption record transfers in 2025
Revisions of adoption agency operations related to requests for public access to adoption information.
Starting July 19th, 2025, the procedures previously centered on adoption agencies will be reorganized to focus on the Child Rights Protection Agency, which will take on the roles of the Adoption Policy Committee and its secretariat.
Moreover, with the sequential transfer of adoption records previously held by adoption agencies to the Child Rights Protection Agency, there were also intensive discussions on the establishment and operation of an adoption management system and transfer procedures.
Director Jung Ik-jung of the Child Rights Protection Agency stated, "We will hold monthly inspection meetings to meticulously discuss adoption records and detailed aspects of future adoption policies, preparing improvement measures for any issues that arise."
