FOR KSS ADOPTEES ONLY:

Request a birth family search and your formerly secret / unobtainable “KOREAN Adoptive Child Study Summary” (a document UNIQUE to KSS Adoptees) As Soon As Possible!

We STRONGLY recommend that KSS Adoptees file their official requests with KSS BY EARLY 2025 - since KSS currently has a 1-4 MONTH long wait time! This wait time will only get LONGER closer to July 2025!!!

Please see the “Illustrated Step By Step Illustrated Guide” about halfway down this page for complete instructions on how to officially request a birth family search AND your “KOREAN Adoptive Child Study Summary” (which was NOT obtainable prior to mid 2021) at the SAME time:

You can request BOTH a birth family search AND your “KOREAN Adoptive Child Study Summary” at the SAME TIME.

However, if you have no interest in birth family search, and ONLY want to request documents, you can do that.

KSS Files By Law Will Be Moved To The Korean Government Agency NCRC - the National Center for the Rights of the Child Starting in July 2025!

NCRC currently has just 2-3 Birth Family Search workers to handle the birth family search requests of ALL Korean Adoptees around the WORLD. NCRC ONLY plans to hire a TOTAL of 5-6 Birth Family Search workers once our files are moved from KSS to NCRC. This means that your response time from NCRC for birth family search and document request will be SIGNIFICANTLY DELAYED once KSS files are moved to NCRC in July 2025!!!

We do not know what the KSS birth family search process and process for requesting / obtaining KSS files will look like after KSS files move to NCRC. However recently the Head of NCRC said that sorting out the files could take up to 10 YEARS!!!

It currently (as of August 2024) takes 1-4 MONTHS for KSS to fulfill a request for initiating a birth family search and fulfilling a SINGLE document request. Currently, it can take 4 MONTHS to hear from NCRC.

You can only request ONE document at a time from KSS, however you can request a birth family search at the SAME time. You do the math in terms of how much time you have left to request and obtain your documents from KSS.

Submit your official birth family search to KSS BEFORE KSS files move to NCRC!!!
